POST-OP CARE

POST-ROOT CANAL

  1. Some tenderness can be expected. You can take either an over-the-counter pain medicine or the pain medicine prescribed to you.

  2. If an antibiotic has been prescribed to you, please take it as directed and finish all the pills, regardless of how well you feel.

  3. A temporary has been placed in the tooth. This restoration is prone to dislodgment so please avoid sticky and hard foods.

  4. Avoid biting on hard objects until the tooth is properly restored with a filling or crown after therapy is completed.

  5. Hot food or beverage can be harmful to anesthetized tissues. Please avoid drinking hot coffee, etc., until the numbness wears off.

  6. A crown or final restoration is needed to protect the tooth. Please schedule that appointment with your general dentist within 1-2 weeks.

POST-SURGERY

  1. The sutures will dissolve in about a week. Please do not touch the area or try to take out the sutures yourself.

  2. To minimize swelling, place an ice pack on the operated area. The pack should be used for 20 minutes on and 10 minutes off.

  3. During the first few days, eat foods that will be soft, yet nourishing, and will not require vigorous chewing.

  4. Rinse with warm salt water (one teaspoon to 8 oz. of warm water), as often as possible.

  5. You should brush your teeth carefully in the treated area, excluding the gums. Do not use dental floss or a water irrigation device.

  6. For pain, 2 Advil and 1 extra strength Tylenol is recommended. If stronger pain meds are needed, please consult with the doctor.
